Tracy grew up on a farm in Big Rapids. After PBBs contaminated cattle feed supplement across Michigan, Tracy’s family was forced to shut down their farm and forge a new path forward. These hard times led Tracy’s mother to start working at The Old Pioneer Store and Emporium, an important local business that she now owns.

Throughout high school, Tracy balanced being a student and a member of the cheer squad, with having to financially support herself and contribute to her family. Tracy started working at a local McDonald’s at 16. Her strong performance caused her to quickly get promoted to Trainer and Shift Manager. Tracy ended up working at McDonald’s for 20+ years. Over her McDonald’s career, she led teams of workers, opened new stores, and eventually managed multiple restaurants.

Tracy worked for another big local employer – Meijer Inc. She provided critical leadership on operations and scheduling at the organization’s corporate offices. Before leaving Meijer, Tracy was the Operations Manager for Meijer customer contact. She has rolled up her sleeves, endured through long commutes behind the wheel, and gotten results.

While Tracy was building her career, she was also growing her family. Tracy married her husband Rob in 1996. The couple have a daughter Lilly, and a son Hunter. Both Tracy’s children are proud graduates of our state’s public universities.

Besides balancing her own career and raising her two children, she has provided operations support to her husband’s insulation business – International Insulation Fabricator’s Inc. Tracy has remained active in her church and with organizations like Angels of Action. She is a proud member of the Big Rapids Rotary Club. Tracy’s faith and connection to her community inspired her to pursue a new role – State Representative.

Tracy’s drive facilitated her professional and personal success, and it is what makes her the best choice to represent Michigan’s 100th District in the State House of Representatives. Tracy is an objective leader, who will give her constituents the real story and make decisions that benefit everyone. She will help build the local economy – ensuring that the Gotion Project will be positioned to deliver more than 2,300 local jobs and protecting our local downtown small businesses. Tracy will protect women's freedom to make their own healthcare decisions and she is a proud champion of the LGBTQ community. As a small business owner, Tracy knows first-hand that the current healthcare system is failing both employers and workers. She will work to expand affordable healthcare options for all Michiganders and help relieve the financial stress that healthcare poses to small businesses.

This story is a testament to Tracy’s work ethic and passion for her community. She will bring determination and proven leadership to the campaign and fight for all members of the Big Rapids community.

Hard work is at the core of Tracy Ruell’s story. Whether it was working her way up from Crew Member to Area General Manager at McDonald’s or raising two children while pitching in on her family’s insulation business, Tracy has always used her drive to support others and better her community.
